The "Apple Corp" Bite

Ever wondered why a company like Apple Corp has a logo of "slightly eaten apple" as if someone's taken a bite from it on the right and if this is the case, then, who that someone is or may be, is it out of the blue, this sign was discovered???. Well if you have not given a thought to it before then better stick on to this post and read the trivia behind the legacy.

As i was going through the book "the impossible of physics" by Michio Kaku, i budged into the topic on ROBOTS and came to know of a legendary guy named "Allen Turing", one of the greatest scientist of all time and a pioneer in conceptualizing the funda of how computer works and the intricacies involved. Allen invented a "bombe" decoder to decipher the encrypted signals sent by the Nazi's "Enigma" computer during World War II. He was the mastermind behind the success of America in the war. but soon after the war, Allen was found victim for cases of homosexuality and his home was even burglarized. the humiliation aggravated his pain. So one day he decided to end his life by committing suicide. He took an apple and injected it with cyanide and as soon as he ate the first bite, the legendary scientist collapsed.

in order to commemorate the greatest men on earth, Apple Corp declared the logo of their company to be of the same apple that Allen ate in his last supper with the bite on the right of the apple.

So this is how the very omnipotent, the very famous "Apple" symbol came into existence.

and with this, you guys are I.Q'd. chow for now. see you next time with more trivial unexplored facts from history and otherwise.

  3. intriguing!!! not to mention me being IQeddddd same time...

However, what bothers me most how they came up with the whole idea of the biten apple..I mean, Its a nice gesture to commemorate Allen Turing and all that., But why his apple, that proved as a weapon of death in his case...Im sure, even Mr.Turing wouldnt have fancied the fact of logo-lising his forsaken apple.....

    Neverthless, an informative insight.

  6. yeah ANO...even i thought the same and it seems every1 had this preconceived wrong notion in thier minds that apple symbol must have comeout out of nowhere or by fluke...but reading this book on "the impossible of physics" gave a better clarity of the fact...

truely, when a thing becomes famous..it tends to involve itself with mysteries and rumours...

  8. Hi Rahul,

Here's what wiki has to say:

Apple's first logo, designed by Jobs and Wayne, depicts Sir Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree. Almost immediately, though, this was replaced by Rob Janoff's "rainbow Apple", the now-familiar rainbow-colored silhouette of an apple with a bite taken out of it. Janoff presented Jobs with several different monochromatic themes for the "bitten" logo, and Jobs immediately took a liking to it. While Jobs liked the logo, he insisted it be in color to humanize the company. The Apple logo was designed with a bite so that it would be recognized as an apple rather than a cherry. The colored stripes were conceived to make the logo more accessible, and to represent the fact the monitor could reproduce images in color. The logo is often erroneously referred to as a tribute to Alan Turing, with the bite mark a reference to his method of suicide. Both the designer of the logo and the company deny that there is any homage to Turing in the design of the logo.

that's pretty interesting what you posted in your comment..but if you go by the Book "The Impossible of Physics" it has all together a very different explantion for the apple logo...seems to be a controversial discussion...wonder which 1's true now...
